Located at a municipal landfill designed to hold 2.5 million cubic meters of municipal solid waste in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, the Greater Lebanon Refuse Authority Landfill Gas Collection and Combustion Project collects and captures landfill gas (LFG) that would, under normal circumstances, be emitted to the atmosphere and then uses it to produce electricity for export to the grid through two generators with an installed capacity of 1 megawatt. The project only issues credits based on the avoided emissions from methane rather than the electricity generation, which is a more conservative approach to issuance that reduces the risk of overcrediting.
Verra (VCS 5)
This project has little to no risk of reversal because its avoided emissions are not subject to being undone.
