What is the Climate Pledge?

The Climate Pledge, co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism in 2019, is a commitment by companies to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. Signing this pledge means committing to regular reporting, implementing decarbonization strategies in line with the Paris Agreement, and neutralizing any remaining emissions with high-quality carbon credits.

By making the Climate Pledge commitment, companies take a leadership position in the global movement toward net-zero. Over 500 companies, representing a diverse range of industries,  have already joined. Together, they are leading the way in corporate climate responsibility.

What’s Required to Meet the Climate Pledge?

Achieving the Climate Pledge’s ambitious targets involves several steps:

  1. Measuring emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3.
  2. Setting decarbonization strategies to reduce emissions in line with the Paris Agreement.
  3. Offsetting unavoidable emissions through the purchase and retirement of verified, high-quality carbon credits.

Participants must also provide regular updates on their progress, showing consistent reductions in emissions over time.

Who Else Has Signed, and Why Should Your Company?

The more than 500 signatories to the Climate Pledge represent a range of sectors and include numerous industry leaders like Amazon, Unilever, Microsoft, Visa, Verizon, and Best Buy. Signing the Pledge demonstrates a commitment to sustainability, which can help attract customers, investors, and talent, all of whom increasingly prioritize corporate environmental responsibility. Additionally, many companies are signing the Climate Pledge to stay ahead of regulatory requirements and to align with global sustainability trends.
