At CNaught we believe customers are best served with a portfolio approach to carbon offsetting because the best science recognizes that a portfolio both reduces risk and drives climate finance to a broad range of projects that are necessary to meeting global climate goals.

Rather than placing the burden of picking individual projects on the customer, we construct high-integrity, diversified portfolios that draw on multiple projects for them. Our headline Impact Portfolio represents what we believe is the best option for most customers. However, we recognize that some customers have specific needs or preferences that require some additional tailoring. For example, some customers need to meet specific certification standards, such as Climate Neutral or Climate Active. Other customers may have particular geographic or vintage requirements.

To that end, we’ve recently improved our product to make it easier to construct such customized portfolios, enabling finer grained control on the vintages, geographies, project types, and other characteristics used to select the projects used to fulfill purchases of a portfolio.

In the initial phase, these tools are exposed only to our supply team, enabling them to construct new types of portfolios. The first of these is the Climate Neutral portfolio, which meets the Climate Neutral certification standard for vintage year and third-party certification. Companies needing this certification can now use this portfolio to meet their needs without needing to do the work of identifying which projects meet the certification standard, which of those projects are actually high-quality, how much of each project to purchase, and where to source each of those projects.
